THE TEAR THAT NEVER DROPPED(first play)

 

Adedayo(male) and Dorcas(female) are friends. They are both students but Dayo loves to take pictures, he owns a digital camera. Dorcas has a condition called NGLY-1(N-glycanase 1) gene mutation and therefore doesn't have the ability to cry. Dayo has a "thing" for Dorcas. He hasn't gotten around to telling her though. They walk together to church every Sunday. 

     On one Sunday morning, as usual, Dayo come to "pick" dorcas up from her house. She lives in a two bedroom flat with her flat mate. 

           

                         First scene:

*Dayo: (knocks twice). Good morning 

*Sope(Dorcas' flatmate): I'm coming o

      (She comes out to open the door.)

*Sope: good morning Dayo. She isn't ready yet o, she is taking her bath, it's like she wants to scrub herself out today. (both laugh) 

*Dayo: don't worry I'll wait for her

(he enters and goes to Dorcas' room while sope returns to her room.)

       

                    Next scene:

Dorcas' room: 'scars to your beautiful' by Alessia Cara blares loudly from a Bluetooth speaker and Dorcas sings along from the bathroom which is a small room carved out from her room. The Bathroom is open and she doesn't hear Dayo enter. 

 

Dayo:(nods to the music as he brings out his digital camera from his bag) 

       He quietly walks towards the bathroom. He clicks a few photos of Dorcas taking her bath. She doesn't see him because of the see-through veil at the edge of her bath tub. She continues to sing loudly.

Dayo goes back to the main room to wait for her. 

                   Next day/Next scene. 

  Dayo's room: (Dayo's friend enters) He picks up Dayo's camera which was left to charge. As he walks out of the room, he checks the pictures on the internal memory of the camera. He pauses to gape at Dorcas' pictures. Then runs into his room to show other friends.

 

Dayo's friend: guy!  cheiiii, come see o, I fess know say something dey between Dayo and this babe. I don dey ask him since, E go dey talk say they be bestie, now bestie Don pose naked for camera! (all laugh)

   About 5 boys cluster round the camera, check the pictures and discuss. They copy the pictures and post online. 

                                        ***

         Next scene/Dorcas' room

*Dorcas: stares at the pictures that her supposedly hers with disbelief.

*Sope: (bursts in through the door panting and starts screaming on top of her voice) Dorcas!!! And later you'll be forming Christian sister, inviting me to church every Sunday!!! Who knew? How could you stoop so low after all the 'I can't have a boyfriend talk" it'll have been better if you got a boyfriend. You actually posed for that boy. And this happened under my roof, Chei who knew. 

 

Dorcas: sope, you didn't even bother asking but you're accusing. Please leave my room. 

   (Dorcas shuts the door after her) 

   She continues to check the pictures which have now gone viral and were getting millions of comments.

Dorcas suddenly drops her phone. She doesn't cry though as she can't. She stares at her wall for hours. 

Her phones keeps ringing as she receives calls and messages from friends including Dayo.

Dayo and a few other friends knock at her door and shout for her to open. She only sits and stares. Then she picks up her phone, smashes it, and goes into her bathroom.

She goes to her bathroom counter and picks up the bleach, goes back to the room drinks the whole bottle and slumps.

       Her friends finally break down the door. They see her lying lifeless on the floor, and a teardrop is seen under her left eye. Her first and only tear drop. The only tear that ever dropped!.
